Annie Laurie - Album Version
Annie Laurie is a Traditional Scottish song based on a poem written (as far as we know) by William Douglas (c. 1682–1748). The text describes his romance with Annie Laurie, the youngest daughter of Baronet Robert Laurie who allegedly – and successfully – opposed the match. The song is also known as Maxwelton Braes.
This arrangement is an exact transcription of the version heard on my debut album Echos from Home. While marked for an Advanced player, it could be played by an Advanced Intermediate player who is comfortable with Celtic ornaments. It is for Medium Voice in B-flat (two flats) and has no lever changes. You will need a harp with a low Bb for this arrangement. Chord symbols are included. There is no fingering or brackets. The text has been updated slightly so as to be clear to the average listener. The vocal range spans one octave and a third: B-flat below middle C to the D above treble C.
